Movies for Week 11: Australia

One of the most famous Australian movies is the 1979 dystopian action film Mad Max. Directed by George Miller, starring Mel Gibson as Mad Max, shot in and around Melbourne, and featuring several custom build cars, this is the ideal film to get into the mood for the opener of the 2018 Formula 1 season, held on the streets of Melbourne.

The most memorable car in the movie is Mad Max’s Pursuit Special. This was a modified 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT Hardtop with a 5.8L V8 engine.
A 1974 Ford Falcon XB would become the first car of another movie star from Australia: Eric Bana. In the 2009 documentary Love the Beast he tells the story of his car and the effect it has had on his life. Race Taste review: a must-see, a love story and a tear-jerker.
