Literature for Week 24: Catalonia

George Orwell (Eric Arthur Blair, 1903-1950) published his personal account of his experiences in the Spanish Civil War in Homage to Catalonia. During Orwell’s lifetime, the book was not widely published and reviews were mixed. After the succes of his other books (Animal Farm, 1984), Homage to Catalonia’s status has risen in popularity and is seen as one of the best contemporary accounts of the Spanish Civil War.
