Literature for Week 42: Japan

One of the three Japanese Nobel laureates is Yasunari Kawabata (1899-1972), whose subtly-shaded prose is a very interesting experience for a reader with a Western background in literature. The story and word choice seem very sparse, but once the reader has finished the book, deep emotions are stirred up and the characters in the stories take on a new dimension.
